Are Big Joe products fire resistant or fire retardant?
Big Joe products contain different materials, and each is regulated separately for flammability safety.
- The fill materials (such as polystyrene beads or shredded polyurethane foam) meet CAL 117‑2013 requirements, which means they include flame‑retardant properties as required by law.
- The outer covers, however, do not contain added flame‑retardant chemicals. This is also noted on the law label.
Because the law label lists each component individually, you may see one section indicating flame‑retardant compliance for the fill and another stating that the cover contains no added flame‑retardant chemicals. These statements refer to different parts of the product and do not conflict.
